A weekend in Chicago

A few weeks ago I visited my family in Chicago. It was mother’s day and we all wanted to spend some quality time together. My Mom and Dad drove up from Cincinnati.

We had a nice lunch date at Elmhurst Brewery and then made dinner at home. I attempted to recreate a sauce from a famous french recipe and failed miserably. The sauce was fine, per se, but not at all what I had intended. I’m going to do some more research and try to figure out what I did wrong.

My brother-in-law has been really getting into different cooking techniques for meat and I was absolutely stoked that he busted out his sous vide setup! I’ve been considering investing in a setup myself so I was curious to see how it worked for him. He, however, has the added bonus of a fancy grill. I only have my lovely, tiny, Brooklyn kitchen.
